Well, we finally made it through the awful baseline assessments (and I'm sure students are going to be THRILLED to hear that!) and can get started on new learning and projects in the next few weeks.
7th Grade LA:
Monday - Wednesday - We will be discussing our first reading strategy this week, Finding Main Idea. Students will complete two packets for this strategy, one in class on Monday and one will be split between Tuesday and Wednesday. Students will only have homework on these days if they do not finish their work in class.
Thursday & Friday - We will end the week looking at the literary elements of 'character'. This work will help set the stage for our first novel (which we will begin in the next week or so) and our first book report (to be assigned the second half of the semester). Students will be looking at different personality traits of characters and discussing how those traits shape their opinion of each character.
8th Grade LA:
Monday - Thursday - This week we will begin looking at the 6+1 Traits of Writing and focusing specifically on the 'conventions' trait. Each day students will have a variety of editing tasks to help them understand the importance of checking their conventions in a final draft.
Friday - We will continue working with the 6+1 Traits and begin looking at the 'ideas' trait. These two topics will be the focus for our first major writing project, which will be assigned in a few weeks. Students will not have homework this week.
7th Grade SS:
Monday - We will discuss the chapter outline today as a class. Students will be assigned a vocabulary worksheet to begin in class (any part that is not completed in class is homework).
Tuesday - We will read pages 28-34 aloud in class. Students will complete questions 1-4 (all parts) on page 34 (any part that is not completed in class is homework).
Wednesday - We will take the quiz over section 1. Next we will discuss the outline of section 2 and I will assign section 2 vocabulary (any part that is not completed in class is homework).
Thursday - We will read pages 36-39 aloud in class. Students will complete questions 1-3 (all parts) on page 39 (any part that is not completed in class is homework).
Friday - We will take the quiz over section 2. Next we will discuss the outline of section 3 and I will assign section 2 vocabulary (any part that is not completed in class is homework).
